I'm married to a Pom!

After nearly 39 years of marriage I am finally married to a POM!!! DH was persuaded to apply for citizenship through his mother being born in UK and today he got his letter of approval. Citizenship ceremony in April. To say I am over the moon is an understatement - it makes our living in UK so much easier. Thank you M-i-L for having the good sense to be born in UK!!!!!

Good for him, at least now he can go back and forth and no visas needed

When I saw the thread title, I thought maybe you'd traded in the old banger for a new model.

Wait until he's had the ceremony and then on the way home ask him if he realises he'll have to reliquish his Aussie passport.. Should be good for a laugh

The chances of me falling out with Cambridge are somewhere between slim and none!!! Now all I have to do is warm the soil up a bit so he can get into the garden without freezing his fingers off and all will be well! Once he sees the garlic and lettuces growing I figure I have a better than even chance of persuading him that this is the place to be!

Had thought about that LOL but he knows you can have both as the boys and I all do!!!!

Congrats quoll! You two should plan a lovely holiday to celebrate, just so you can get that great feeling of handing over the new passport upon re-entry

Congratulations quoll! DH too
May I please ask, how long did it take, from initial application of UKM, to your DH receiving his letter of approval? And did he apply from the UK?
My US DH is also going to apply for UK citizenship via his English mum but since we've been here in the US for 20 years we're worried it'll take ages and ages for them to complete any checks they may want to do. We've been told it can take 6 months and sometimes much longer, even, than that! Now that we've decided we're going home 6+ months is going to feel like an entire lifetime!

It was a simple enough process but just a bit anxious making, having to wait for that length of time - I think it would normally have been a bit quicker but the NCS lady told us there was a real rush on the service over Christmas which was quite uncharacteristic. You may find that overseas processing is actually quicker!
We did have references from professional UK passport holders who had known him for decades so dont know if that was a help or not.
Good luck!

Thanks for all your insight quoll
Hopefully we shall have a timeline closer to your husband's, rather than the 6+ months we've been told!
