Has Britain 'Had it's day'?

With all the turmoil that seems to be badly affecting the UK and given the severity I can't help thinking that Britain is entering a new era where things won't be as good as they were before (for the long-term).
Do you agree?

If that were the case then most of the western world has too. Britain is not on its own in all this, it is merely in it with everyone else.
Just because you see certain companies in UK going down the pan, do you really think its just them? Have a look at American companies, and those right across Europe.
Why is it that the pessimistic Brits think they are unique in these situations?
Britain has not had its day anymore than any other country in the western world.... in my opinion

Prosperity and economic growth.
I'm not stating anything definitively but rather trying to make an educated guess about what might happen?
Given that Britain seems to be the hardest hit of the European Union nations it's probably got the 'longest' road to some sort of recovery ahead of it.
I also think the same will be true of US economic recovery.
Also, our old neighbours in the UK have emailed us to tell us that coming to Australia was the best thing that we could have done and that they both feel that the situation is far worse than the economic gloom of the 70's.
Add to that the fact that my Brother (who is one of his companies star-workers) is finding out tomorrow whether or not he gets to keep his job.
I can't help feeling pessimistic I guess?

You're correct many countries are experiencing tough times...so what's the difference? I consider the UK to be my home and it always will be...tough times or not.

It's a long day then.
I remember being told that when we left 20 years ago. I was homesick and wanted to move back and everyone said "you're crazy..Britain has had it's day"

Their comparison of hard times only applied to the UK and not any other country though? Given that they lived in the UK in the 70's and that they still live there now I feel they are justified in making the comparison.

Lets cut to the chase here. What exactly is going to happen to all us Brits then? All this is money related doom isnt it?
The country is not going to be wiped out by a killer virus.
We wont all end up living in mud huts with no electricity will we?
Will there be a food famine and we all die?
Its money!! nothing more than that. Britain was wiped out once before financially after WW2, on top of being flattened by bombings, millions of lost lives etc etc. We are still here, we all recovered and moved on, just as we will in all this.

They haven't lived overseas so how can they tell you to stay in Oz...they have no idea what it's like to be an expat?

They made that judgment call based upon the pertinent information that we were feeding them about living here in Australia and simply weighing up pro's against con's. It's an informed suggestion I guess?
