Interestingly, when the Red Road flats were built, they were the tallest social housing flats in Europe. And then another city built some one floor higher, and that's where I grew up. Not many people know that.

I was baffled when I heard the rationale from the ceremony chairwoman:
"By sharing the final moments of the Red Road flats with the world as part of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is proving it is a city that is proud of its history but doesn't stand still, a city that is constantly regenerating, renewing and re-inventing itself."
How does blowing up a skanky block of flats demonstrate pride in your history? That's twisted logic.
