Default Claiming back VAT

Not sure if that many people in the UK realise that you can get furniture, especially chairs, sofas and beds free of VAT if you are registered disabled, this DOES include anyone suffering from Diabetes, so even though you do not get any of the disability payments, just suffering from Diabetes does get you chairs etc VAT free, BUT you need to claim at the time you order it, and don't let the salespeople fob you off by saying they don't know what to do, it's a simple form you sign to say you have a disability and want the item VAT free, and then say what the disability is. We walked out of one store, a well advertised chain store, and went to a local independent store because they kept telling us we needed to apoy full price and then claim the VAT back through their head office. You don't, all you need to do is to sign a form at the time of buying and you will get the item VAT free, a considerable saving on something costing £1000+. This does include items in a sale, they should still give you them VAT free.

Does that apply to all furniture, Mike or just those that are adapted for disabilities?

A friend of mine has a chronic condition and this might help her, but this link seems to suggest its only for adapted products...

We got ours for riser/recliner chairs and adjustable beds. It was basically the fact that DM is classed as one of the 'disabilities' that I posted, and was brought to mind finding that a neighbour who is registered blind had no idea that she could get VAT relief on the recliner chair she had just ordered.
