I met If1 and her spouse today in New York City....they are a lovely couple
Will be thinking of you both, Pombat and Britwhore families + the 4 canines as you set sail from Brooklyn at 5pm on Friday (local time ET or 10pm in the UK)
I did this very same journey from NY to Southampton on the Queen Mary 2 just a month ago (although sadly I had to fly back to New Jersey) and it's a wonderful way to de-stress, relax and have some breathing space after the hectic time of packing up in North America and starting the next chapters of their lives in the UK.
Bon Voyage!

The QM2 webcam is here, with a bit of luck soon after 5pm there may be a good view of seeing her going under the Verrazano Bridge as she heads out of NY harbour to the open sea:

Tomorrow, 3 Aug 2012 @ 5.00 pm we set sail from New York to Southampton. Me, OH, Pombat & Britwhore families start our voyage back to the UK. The crossing takes seven days, so, all being well, we should be back in the UK on Friday, Aug 10th!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes. We are sitting in the hotel lobby for another hour or so before we head off to Brooklyn. Thought I would take advantage of the free wifi access and catch up with my BE buddies.

Englishmum, thank you for the text. As my mobile phone is from the Dark Ages, I thought it would quicker to post here, rather than try to text a reply.

Hi K.... yes I did get your text.
Hey Peeps.....the QM2 is imminently about to set sail!
Check the webcam!
http://www.cunard.com/Ships/Queen-Ma...ridge-Web-Cam/
Btw - the clock on the webcam is set to Greenwich Mean Time (the airline industry calls it Zulu time, not sure about shipping) ie. an hour behind British Summer Time
Au Revoir!

We have 7 days to track the ship...

OK it's 6.07pm ET (11.07pm UK) and the Verrazano Bridge is in sight!
Oddly enough, someone has just posted this high quality documentary (which I saw on the telly a few days ago) all about the Queen Mary as she is departing from New York enroute to Southampton.
It's for 45 minutes, but it is absolutely fascinating and well worth watching (especially when you see how it leaves the port!). The Captain and Hotel Manager aren't the same ones as when we were onboard last month - the Captain is Chris Wells (who is a lovely, lovely modest man) and the Hotel Manager is a Scot (we were invited to dine at his table one evening) and for the life of me I can't remember his name!
What a way to move back to the UK! Much nicer than going by air, methinks

Bon Voyage to everyone!
I don't know you, but reading some of your posts as you prepared for this trip has really been great. I'm such a mushy person...I find myself a little teary eyed as I read these recent posts and watch the webcam, imagining how you all must be feeling as you set out on this journey home. I am so happy for all of you.

WE ARE HOME!!!!!!
Arrived in Southampton this morning and what a glorious day. The sun even made its way up to Scotland and it is a lovely sunny evening here in the Scottish Borders.
The trip was fab and we met some really nice people. I would highly recommend it.
