Default Any potential problems here?

Ok, so... the family has been planning a UK reccie around March next year. Funds are put away for the Aussie husband's visa... a dear friend has offered us free accommodation for a month in the UK for us to get on our feet and my teen would be on a gap year.

Today, husband is asked to consider a well-paying job, in Aus, with a firm contract until end of June. He's interested in the job and seemingly open to the idea of me and mine travelling ahead for 3 months.

I'm also ok with this... (I think input welcome) as the gap year and accommodation are fleeting... but ponder how I might fare as a newly arrived would-be renter with no job lined-up (but funds) and no recent qualifications and no visible (main bread-winner) husband?

Oh, and husband wants to drop in to see a mate in Thailand on his delayed journey over.

Any potential problems here that I might be missing?

As long as you are sure he will follow then nope, no problems - even the added bonus of him being responsible for all the packing up.

I would hold off the 3 months till his contract has finished & all go over together. Would he be OK with this as well as not dropping into to see his mate in Thailand?

If you go a ahead & he does go to Thailand before arriving in the UK will it be 4, 5, 6 months before he finally arrives?

Yes, though I'd probably pack a fair portion beforehand. Just in case he changes his mind.

It would feel a bit like taking the plunge but I'm a big believer in people doing what's important to them and if we have different short-term priorities and can meet somewhere in the middle then I guess that's a win-win.

The problem with me and mine waiting is that we only have our initial accommodation offer for that one month at that time of year. (It's a friends' holiday home). Also, my school-leaver only has a gap year window before having to commit to something, somewhere. I'm concerned a long delay twiddling thumbs could result in social and/or financial entrenchment.

Also, I arrived in the UK, briefly for Summer, several times when I was younger, and having waited many years to spend this extended time in the UK, I am concerned a July arrival could end up as a holiday deja vu.

As for the Thailand stopover, it would only be a brief couple of days, not months, so a three month delay is realistic.

Just have to see if he gets/takes the job now.

Go for it. We can sit around and put things off waiting for things to be perfect, but they never will be. The time will fly and hopefully you will have things all set up by the time your Dh arrives.
