Shipping from UK to Ireland
Hello Everone,
I am a new member and hope some of you guys may be able to help.
We have been in the UK for 18 years now and moving back to Ireland.
Does any one know how much does shipping cost? Or how do you go about it?
I am not bringing the whole house of furniture but things that I know that will be costly to buy/replace. I would need a small container or shared container perhaps?
I would appreciate your help with this.
Kind Regards
Rori

Hi Rori, welcome to BE
A shared load would definitely be an option for you if you've not got that much to move and can be semi-flexible on the dates of delivery
Regarding costs there are a few different factors, here's a thread covering what goes into it all....http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=782460 so you can see it's a bit tricky to give an idea of cost without knowing all that criteria. My advice would be arrange a free no obligation survey and get your own tailored quote for your budget, if you're not ready yet see if the moving company will give you a ball park for a list of items and a phone description or if they have a self survey/inventory form on their website - just so you can work out your budget for now.
Here's another thread with some advice on choosing moving companies to invite to quote ... there are literally hundreds of companies out there offering services so it should give you some tips for narrowing down your short list! http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=783099
Hope that helps and let me know if you've any other questions I might be able to help with

Hi Rori,
Having just moved from the UK last October, I know what you're going through. I looked in to removal companies and storage containers and in the end found it was much cheaper to hire a 3.5t van and do it myself using the ferry.
I also found several "international removal companies" who "didn't go as far as Ireland". Not really sure what their definition of International was...

Re: Shipping from UK to Ireland
This is a bit late now, the post being so old, but we made the move from Oxford this month. We used a company called McCanns Your Man. They were brilliant. Good blokes all round and very professional but friendly and helpful too. Kept our stuff for 2 days free of charge, after our rental home fell through!
£2500 for a full lorry (big lorry!) load to the Irish Midlands. Nearest quote from a UK company was £7500 who insisted we pay for insurance for our things during the move. Go figure!
Tell Tom, David and Anne say hi.
