Default Paying Class 2 National Insurance contributions from Rep of Ireland

Hi
If anyone can advise me about this I'd be very grateful.
I worked in the UK (self-employed) for over a decade then moved back to Ireland.
After I came back i stopped paying UK national Insurance but the the Inland Revenue kept writing to me in Ireland regarding class 2 arrears which were mounting. I figured I could ignore this because I didn't think it applied to me any longer. Then they got an English county court judgement and at that stage I paid them the arrears. I took advice about that time about future contributions and I was told that I should continue paying as it would entitle me to a UK pension so I have been paying them ever since.
Now they have written to me again looking for specific details about when I left the UK and I'm wondering if this is trawling exercise so they can disallow the contributions I made since I left the UK?
