I have to disagree with that. I had Eircom broadband and it was terrible, always going down, expensive, need a phone line, no customer support, not always as fast as it claims, same problems with any friends who had it.

I switched to NTL cable broadband, it was perfect, much faster and reliable, and no need for a phone line – cheaper too.

As for mobile phones, best to stick with Vodafone, I found them the best in Ireland. 3 where not so good, Meteor are cheap, but not the best and I had no experience with o2. There is a new network coming out soon aswel, but obviously have no idea what they will be like.

I totally agree on the mobiles, ive experienced them all, and voda were the best by a long shot, my eircom broadband is lightning fast but then again I am a techy and I can dabble my router to get more juice, I had ntl in the uk and they were awful but I got free digital tv as there is a nokia box that decrypts the tv signal as ntl never actually switche it off, I think you can still buy them on ebay for about 100 quid sterling.but other peoples experience is priceless and no one can agree on everything..well done mikeyc!!

O2 are expensive. Vodafone even more so. Meteor is cheap, and I've no complaints (been with them 2.5 years). Tesco mobile is out now, also cheap.

I loved meteor my self had them all before that 02 and vodaphone meteor are very cheap and credit last forever plus you have phone a friend for free when your watching the money it helps

on Internet we had a ripwave box from Irish broadband and found it great used it on the computer and labtop (wireless) also had a 3V card for the lab top which was good but the ripwave box was faster I was happy with the speed my DH likes it faster though depends on how much you like to down load off the internet I guess

All of the networks in Ireland play up not all the time, but much more regularly than say in the UK.

I use O2 for my Irish phone as if you register, they give me 250 free web texts to send. Dead handy. I've had no problems with them so far, except they won't let me top up using a non-Irish credit card (I work in UK so all my bank stuff is UK for moment).

Meteor tend to give you a lot of free up front credit and free texts to other Meteor numbers, but the coverage isn't as good. Not one for roaming the countryside, but excellent for the main cities, if your friends have Meteor.

Vodafone are OK and 3 are not great.

Good info on the different networks,
We spend a couple of months each year over there and take our uk phones, we use virgin here and the signal is awfull in a lot of areas but what we have noticed is that we have a good signal just about everywhere be it meteor O2 or why.
Do wonder if we could buy a local sim card for calls within Ireland?
Mike

Oh and Hi to everyone, more will become apparent.

I going to use Vodafone. Sounds like the coverage is better with them.

Yep you can just walk into any of the phone stores and buy a pre-pay sim - most are 10 Euro and come with free credit if you register.

Would work out much cheaper for you - or you could go with 3 (UK or Ireland) as they have NO roaming charges in other countries that have the 3 Network.
