Default Exchange Rate

I will soon be moving from UK to Ireland and have opened an account with Ulster Bank. I will have £250,000 to send to Ireland when house is sold and I am told that my solicitor in Uk should send the money to Ulster Bank using CHAPS and they will change to Euros. Does anyone know whether they will recognise the size of the deal in the exchange rate or will I get the same as someone changing a low amount. Any help/comments would be appreciated.

Use a currency exchange house to get a quote before you just do it. Such as ITT Moneycorp or HIFX - they give you just under the commercial rate and every point counts when you are sending an amount like that

I recently used ITT MoneyCorp and found them to be very efficient.
You will not generally get a great rate direct with the bank, but you may be able to negotiate with them.
Have you checked with your U.K. bank.
