Is there anyplace in Gdansk (hotel, internet cafe, etc) that offers
wireless internet connections for people with laptop computers? If so,
where? Thank you.

Searching at http://intel.jiwire.com/ indicates two hotspots. However my
experience with this is that the wifi industry is growing so quickly
that the number is almost certainly greater than that.

Might not reach to Gdansk though! :)
I've read about the rapid growth of free wifi in the Netherlands. Out of
interest, why would someone bother paying for an internet connection if
they lived in Leiden or another wifi area? If you live in a built up
area, chances are you'll get a few wifi signals, some open, some not.
Someone in the building I'm staying in has left their wifi open,
wittingly or not. I'm grateful to whoever they are, though it's fair to
say I haven't abused it with a lot of downloading. In any case, I can
roam at fairly low rates all over the place. I've read with interest
about public access wifi in some US cities- Philadelphia, and IIRC a
google-sponsored (with ads) proposal in the bay area.

Maybe it's easier to visit Leiden than to look for the holy grail in
Poland?

In my case because I wasn't aware it was working.
My son discovered it was working by luck with his laptop. Even so we
are way outside the area shown for it on their website.

My son thought he was getting free access via something similar.
I did a bit of investigating.

The snow has gone after bringing everything to a standstill yesterday
evening.

I discovered one of my neighbours had an open network (like mine at the
time) when I realised that I'd accidentally unplugged my wifi router,
and had been online for several days without it! It had the same name
too, so I didn't notice anything.
