Default Wickford, Essex, UK

I've accepted a job in Wickford, and I'll be moving there within the next
couple of weeks. Is there anything I should know about the area? Anything you
can tell me about the town?

Thank you!

Anything you

With respect, you've taken a job, presumably fixed where to live, and you
know nothing about the town? Sensible?

Wickford is close to Basildon, which was one of the New Towns
developed after WW2, and is covered by Basildon District Council -
www.basildon.gov.uk.

South and west of Wickford, Essex shades into London suburbia, some of
it not very attractive. North and East the countryside becomes
increasingly rural and picture-postcardy.

www.knowhere.co.uk is always interesting for a sideways look at English
towns -- pretty teen-oriented but engaging nonetheless.

Don't be put off too much by the county's poor rep. Your nearest big
town, Basildon, is a pretty grim place. But there are some nice places in
Essex especially if you head north and east of Colchester. And you get the
best oysters in England on Mersea Island!
