Hey Kids,
I cant find anywhere I want to stay/am willing to pay in Cesky Krumlov
during the period I had planned to be there ... apparantly theres a festival
or somthing on and the whole town is full. So I am starting to think of
other places to while away three/four days in July. Anyone have any
recommendations, Brno, Telc, ... ? Whats good? I need somewhere accessible
by train from Prague, and from where I can travel by train to Vienna. Any
advice on cheap/good value hotels there?
Thanks

Perhaps I should split the time between a couple of towns?

First of all you should visit Kutna Hora
it is a very nice town and not very far from Prague.-
thna you can find a hotel in Ceske Budejovice
not very far from Cesky Krumlov.
The name of the beer Budweiser comes from Ceske
Budejovice,, in german Budweis..

Telc is a beautiful town. We stayed in the Hotel Telc last year and just by
pure coincidence there happened to be some sort of music festival and beer
festival as well (Velkopopovicky Kozel) - absolutely excellent!

If I were you I would spend one-two days in Cesky Budejoyvice (Budwieser in
German). It is good for 1/2 to 1 day, Tabor is worth a 1/2 day and Hluboka
is worth a 1/2 day. Budejoyvice is a good base to explore Tabor (heart of
the Hussite rebellion) and the Castle at Hluboka. I think this Castle is
one of the most beautiful Bohemia. Rebuilt in the 16th Century in Tudor
Style by the Schwatzenbergs who were also the masters of Cesky Krumlov until
WWII. It is also only a 30 min bus or Rail ride to Cesky Krumlov. So you
can go there for the Festival. Then I would go to Trebon. Although it is
small it is a lovely little town. You can tour the Schwartsenberg Mausoleum
and the Palace there. In the 15th Century this Palace was the home of
Aneshka Rosenberk who declined to marry and lived as an independent noble
woman. Trebon is on a direct Rail route to Vienna. My Wife and I caught a
train directly there from Trebon. If you stay at the Siesta Pension you
will be 3 min walk from town center and a 5 min walk from the Rail Way
Station.
An alternative would be to go to Telc for one day and then Back to Trebon.
You mentioned Brno. We liked Brno. But it can be difficult to find a nice
place to stay there on short notice. Especially if your looking for an
economy accommodation. It is also convenient to Vienna.

Either way, a town with a fine brewing tradition - and a blasphemy to see
rice-based p*ss-water from Milwaukee passed off as "Budweiser".

The american company has the right of using the brand
Budweiser provided that the same company will not export to Europe.
a few years ago. there was a process against the american
company, as they tried to sell their bier in europe.-
they lost
and apparently the american Budweiser disappeared from European shop shelves

And in Norway, beleive it or not, it's the most sold imported beer
(but imported beer is only a few % of the total)
At a rather well-stocked supermarked I sometimes visit, they actually
sell both Budweiser AND Budweiser. The Czech cans looked so similar to
the American ones that at first I didn't realise they were different.

Try Masaryk University's dorms. In the summer they function as low-priced
hotels. The best one is the one normally used by the Music
Conservatory--small, new, clean and with more amenities than any of the others.
The worst is far out in the suburbs, where the wretched students who get
assigned there live three and four to a small room (two with one bathroom and
kitchen is the norm.)
