There will always be death and taxes; however death doesn't get worse
every year.

The location shots were apparently done in
Ortisei, an Italian ski resort in the Dolomites

The Vampires of the White House would make an excellent horror film. We
could watch in vicarious fear as million lose their jobs; as the ill and
handicapped have services ripped from their desperately clutching fingers;
as pale pasty old men in musty offices gleefully gather more and more of
the wealth to themselves, licking their lips at the sight of underfed and
undereducated children across the nation; as the Constitution of the US is
eroded and the forests are destroyed ..... ooooooh, spoooooooky....

I'm in the midst of reading Anne Rice's books right now though,
and have Vampires on the brain big time ...

Well, if you include bats, why not mosquitoes? (In which case Alaska
and the upper Midwest in Ameirca would also qualify - as well as most
tropical/semi-tropical parts of the world.)

1. Transylvania is a region of Romania. It is in the central part of
the country.
2. Bram Stoker never went to Romania but he somehow found out about
Castle Bran, aka Dracula's Castle, which if you have read the book and
seen or been in the castle is a pretty good setting for the book.
3. The person recognized as the model for Dracula was a Romanian king
by name of Vlad Tepes who was the son of Vlad Dracul (Dracula). He was
born in Sighisoara, which is why the theme park was proposed for that
town which is a great midieval town and in my opinion a Dracula theme
park would have ruined it.
Vlad Tepes was feared because he impaled thousands of people and would
sometimes set a table before them and drink their blood as they were
being impaled. He basically scared the Turks out of Romania by doing
this.
4. It is doubtful if Tepes ever spent a night in Castle Bran. But
there is a major (for Romania) tourist trade built up around the
castle. I would call it interesting rather than cheesie even though
some of the items sold do come with cheese.

Of course, the Greeks invented everything, including vampires.
"The history of the vampire legend has its roots in ancient Greece. There were several creatures that may not have looked like present day vampires, but they were a threat to humans. The empusas were shapeshifters and so could appear as beautiful women. In this disguise, they could entice young men to marry them. On the wedding night, the empusas would proceed to drink the groom's blood. The laminas were slightly different from the empusas. They were able to remove their eyes (although I don't see what's so great about it), change into women, and drink huge amounts of blood. The striges drunk the blood of young children. They would change themselves into birds and fly in the nursery window to feast upon the sleeping children"

Seriously, there is a strong vamipire tradition in Greece, particularly the northern part of the country.

Depends upon when in history - my Transylvanian co-workers considered it
part of Hungary, before the Communists took over after WW2. (And they
CERTAINLY considered themselves "Hungarian", even though they spoke
Romanian as well!)
