I know it's a big question but my parter and I will be driving in France from 14th -
26th July and are planning an itinerary starting and ending in Caen, Normandy, and to
definitely include Bordeaux and Toulouse but the bits inbetween are yet to be
decided. To help us plan, what festivals, sporting events and such like do people
know of during this time in the Western half of France? We're not doing Paris this
time thanks, and I know about the F1 Grand Prix.
TIA

July 14th...now let me see...hasn't that got something to do with that unpleasantness
knows as the Revolution? Like, BASTILLE DAY! A major holiday and should be
celebrations and fireworks everywhere, not to mention that huge parade in Paris. I
think there is also a mass picnic held at noon....ahhhh, the French!

But no World Cup victory celebration in France THIS year. Perhaps the national team
will be offered a free haircut with "la veuve rouge" in honor of Bastille Day?

Well, the day you arrive -le quatorze juillet - is the fete nationale, the
anniversary of the storming of the Bastille and France's national day! So everywhere
will be en fete: there will be processions, fireworks ans displays by the local fire
brigade: venez nombreux!
Join in and enjoy.

Thanks to Marie and Mark who pointed this out. Our ferry gets in to Caen at 2200,
will the parties be going on all night in Caen? Alan

Hi Alan, I've found this :
http://www.culture.gouv.fr/culture/a...arts/index.htm (in french, but it can
be understood)
For the events beginning in the month of JUNE and in few weeks for the month of july
: Choose up the RED column "evenements", then clic on a region, then choose by
"theme" (architecture to theatre) or "date"(in june now), then choose "region
entiere" (all the region) or a particular departement. Or in the same column choose
"organismes", then clic on a region, then choose by "categorie" (FESTIVAL,
EX(POS/hib)ITION...), then the same than above.
Notably in june : Fête de la musique : june 21 : http://fetedelamusique.culture.fr/
cinema feast : june 22-25 : http://www.feteducinema.com/
Or buy the book "Festivals et Expositions France 2000" (9.15 Euros) advertised on the
first page of the website above.
As well for Paris and subburb : http://www.pariscope.fr and the main exhibitions at :
http://www.rmn.fr/ (national museums) , http://www.paris-france.org/musees/ then
expositions / programme (city of Paris museums), other main museums of art :
http://www.louvre.fr/ , http://www.centrepompidou.fr/ , http://www.musee-orsay.fr/
(slow to open...), sciences : http://www.mnhn.fr/ , http://www.cite-sciences.fr/ ,
http://www.arts-et-metiers.net/ , plus
: http://www.cite-musique.fr/ , http://www.bnf.fr/ , then manage to
find the exhibitions (= expositions) links.
