Sorry, I thought you meant Wanadoo France.

Sounds like they are using the same customer relations manual as the parent
company :)

Up until recently, their UK customer service people have been OK, in
my experience anyway. The transfer from their dialup to broadband was
seamless, and they updated me from 2 Meg to 8 Meg LLU with no trouble
at all.

However, on the evening of the 18th when the news server went down, I
phoned the helpline just to confirm that there was a fault at their
end and not mine.

The call was answered by someone who sounded Indian. "News server?
What are you talking about? Does your broadband connection work? Does
your email work? We are not having news server."

"OK, you don't know about the news server - put me on to someone who
does."

"I am fully trained in this. I know all there is to know."

"Well you obviously don't, because you do have a news server. It's
news.freeserve.com - left over from when Wanadoo took over Freeserve."

"That is dialup matter, not broadband matter."

"Listen, I have broadband. I also access newsgroups via
news.freeserve.com. My question is simple - is the news server down or
isn't it?"

(and so it went on and I got no answer to the question, but I did get
a grudging admission that she didn't know about the news server).

Rang them again on Monday. They confirmed immediately that
news.freeserve.com was down indefinitely. I told them to give me a
Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) 'cos I was leaving and moving to
Zen Internet.

"We'll email you one within 48 hours."

48 hours later I rang again - no friggin' MAC code.

"We'll email you one within 48 hours."

"You told me that last time - I have to wait another 48 hours???"

Got one the next day.

Wanadoo? Wanadon't!

[snip]

I had cause to ring'em last night, as installing the router for the
forthcoming new ISP caused problems with connection to wanadoo.

Indian guy answered the phone, and was brilliant at taking me
step-by-step through the process of reconfiguring access. Visited
parts of the computer I'd never visited before!

Credit where credit's due!
