I promise you, you'll have enough good laughs!

How are the chances on getting an apartment in the middle of the
months (July) versus the first of the month, you think? It seems like
we're pretty flexible in our timing...

Ciao!

ehm...if you'll come tomorrow, the key of my apartment is over the door! :-)
I guess you'll learn very quickly that, in Naples, rules are by far more
flexible than your timing...so don't worry, just organize your trip as you
wish and let me know when you'll be here.
Just one question: if you'll come on July (June? :-), will your staying last
two months? or more?

ciao!

We can stay until the end of October or longer!
I am looking forward to the drive down to Naples, we`ll take it slow
and visit family, friends and places on the way. Are there any places
you can recommend, I mean in Italy!?

Well, and then we`ll move into our four-room luxury apartment!!

Ciao!

Ok, I'm syncronizing my calendar :-)

Well...I guess you'll drive along the "Brennero" and the "Sole" freeway
(Autostrada del Brennero and Autostrada del Sole). Some nice places along
the way might be the Lake of Garda (Riva, Sirmione), Venice (it's surely
worth a deviation from your main road), Florence, Rome...hmmm...too
many targets, may be...but those are just the "must" for a tourist coming in
Italy. In those towns hotels are quite expensive, but there are several
cheap
places in their surroundings. In Venice, a good choice might be the
"affittacamere" (rooms rental).

ehm...please, give me a call, when you'll wake up! :-|

ciao! :-)

questions at this moment so will contact you later again if thats
okay?
Though you never know, I might want to know all kinds of stuff next
week!
The email address I am generally using is [email protected]

Ciao!

P.S. thanks for the route, I think we should leave early!!

... weeks later

Are there campgrounds near Naples that you can suggest? I found one
near Pompeii. Maybe we just put up a tent until we find an apartment!

Someone told us that there was an earthquick in Naples a while ago and
that there are still cheaper apartments because of that (that are to
be remodeled)? I didn't know about the earthquick, is it true?

If there are cheap apartments waiting to be remodeled due to earthquake
damage, it almost certainly means that they are empty because they have
been declared unsafe. Some unscrupulous person may be willing to rent an
unsafe apartment to people who can't afford better, but would you want
to live in such an apartment?

There hasn't been any very recent earthquake in Naples, but repairs can
take a very long time, especially in buildings that are not high
priority or whose value after repairs would be borderline.

Thanks, I didn`t know of any recent earthquicks either.
Do you live in Naples? I am very curious and can`t wait to go there in
July.
We hope to find an affordable place but as Mario said, there is the
Campi Flegrei area with okay prices. That sounds like a good thing
since its well-connected to the city.
I am also curious of the art scene, and we will visit Rome for that,
too.

Right, verena.
The last eartquake causing important damages hit Naples on Nov. 23th 1980.
It destroyed several small cities in Campania (mostly in the Avellino and
Benevento provinces), killing three thousand people. Afterward, only some
trembles caused by the volcanic activity in Pozzuoli (the so called
"bradisismo" or "bradisisma"), mostly in 1984. A whole quarter of Pozzuoli
(the ancient Rione Terra) is now empty because it was too dangerous.
Reinforcing works are going on since then, but no apartment is available for
rental in that quarter.
Talking about volcanoes...did you visit the web site of the "Solfatara
Camping"? :-)

I think that would make a good first home there!

And then we'll look for a place a bit safer. We talked alot about
rents... overall would you say that rents right in Naples are higher
than outside, for example in the Campi Flegrei area? (same size)

It might be possible to find a home in Naples in the same range of prices
(400-450 euro). What will be different are finitures, furnishing and the
zone where you'll find such an apartment (usually inside the oldest quarters
or the industrial area).
Of course we may think about the choice when you'll be here. In the meantime
I'm collecting infos and magazines, so we'll have a good starting point
before to go around visiting the available apartments.

ciao!
