The first time we stayed in Treviso, we saw a high speed police chase with
exchanges of automatic fire from our bedroom window.

Tour guide said to go to St. Mark's square at night, when the pigeons
and crowds are gone and the magic of the place shows better than in
daylight.

But you still have to pay 12 euros for coffee, apparently.

Yeah anywhere away from the Rialto bridge and St. Marks seemed pretty
reasonable as far as crowds and queues.

Lots of smaller campos which are fairly deserted in broad daylight.

We stayed 3 people in a 4 star hotel for 120 euro/night. Good breakfast
(excellent by Italien standards) and it was located between the Rialto
and San Marco.

No view, but you're unlikely to get that in Venezia, as the buildings
are so close.
