Default unattended 5 mins luggage in Paris? Then Gone!?

My frens just arrive Newcastle From Paris.
He brought 10 bags from Singapore, arriving newcastle with 8.
He told me that he fall asleep in Paris Airport.
When he woke up, 2 of his bags were gone.
The replied he got was "Unattended bag will be suspected as bomb"
As he isn't good in Eng, nothing he can do.
I am wondering what actually happening in Paris airport.

Regards,
Ed

Only two are gone? I am surprised he got to keep 8.

Esp. since they speak French in Paris.

Unattended luggage are subject to either theft or confiscation, in just
about any airport in the world.

Who knows what happened? 10 bags take up a lot of space, somebody probably
saw he was asleep and grabbed two. Whenever I sleep in airports, I always
clip the bags to my jeans or somewhere else so they'll wake me up if they
grab it. But ten..... Yet another reason to travel light.

You snooze, you lose. To a thief, an unattended bag is an open invitation
to take it. Tell your friend to stop supporting crime by letting the
scoundrels so easily take his stuff.

10 bags!?! What is he? A mule?

And there are usually repeated public announcements over the airport's
loud speaker system warning you not to leave your bags unattended!
