Default UK- A taste for gastro-tourism (BBC)

This article is a week or so old already, but I only just read it. It
does seem to confirm what has seemed to me an increasing trend in much
of the UK- i.e. the touting of local food specialties, and their
integration into local tourism. In this area, a lot of good local
Lancashire cheeses, sausages, game meats, and I live a couple of miles
from Bury, which has a famous black pudding. Very good it is too!

Oh no, indeedy. I'm not sure if they are as associated with the area now
though, as some of the products in the article are. I only live around 3
or 4 miles from Eccles. Of course, as a kid I remember Dundee Cake,
which was close to me! I must go to Bakewell sometime (lovely part of
the country!) and have a tart...

I was kidding. Eccles cakes are produced in Gorton now. Not that far, is it?

No, pretty close, but I'm surprised they are so area-specific. I just
assumed they were made anywhere.

This is typical of the Slow Food movement, a reaction to fast food, i.e.
McDonald's etc. The Slow Food movement emphasizes local traditional
specialities as well as an increased and leisurely appreciation of eating.
See www.slowfood.com

Slow Travel is an offshoot of Slow Food, in reaction to the
it's-Tuesday-this must-be-Belgium 10-countries-in-10-days European tour.

Of course I do. I don't like him very much, but won't deny that he has loads of talent...

There is actually an Ecclestone in Lancashire- nice little town,
... I've a friend who lives there. As for your heartthrob, what do you call
... someone from Salford? Salfordian?

You, a Mancunian, are asking me??

(yes, Salfordian)

... Manchester Pride 2005. The whole gay village area is cordoned off for
... the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. Great fun. More lower
... res. pics in my photo site in the .sig.

Going there! :)

... > How come we never see the canal in the show?

... Well, filming on water is notoriously difficult and expensive! :) I've
... sold my QAF videos, so can't check. You do see the street- but I can't
... say I remember the canal.

You can download it from gay-torrents.net. About 3.45 Gb.

I don't mean filming on water, but giving us a glimpse of the famous canal...!
