Uffizi Reservations

All the booking agencies I've found add outrageous fees to book tickets for Uffizi
and other musuems in Florence & Rome. Most actually double the ticket price.
Is there are reasonable way to reserve tickets?.

You can call or fax the museum.
Reservations can be made, as long as ticket availibility lasts, by calling
+39.(0)55.294883 Monday thru Friday 8.30am-6.30pm; Saturday 8.30am-12.30 am. On
Saturday and holidays an answering service is operative. Fax +39(.(0)55.264406
from their web site.
The cost is about $6.50 direct and about $11 from a reservation service.
Personally, unless I had a very large party, I'd pay the reservation
fee. I would even be tempted by the $30 2 hour guided tour which I found.

Last year, the Hotel Pendini charged us no fees for making a reservation for the
Uffizi. We were not guests of the hotel. My husband made the request to the Hotel
via e-mail.

I thought it was very reasonable.

We found no need to do so and had no trouble at all. It was probably before Noon when
we arrived at the Uffizi to join a line about a block long. It moved with amazing
speed. The wait was quite pleasant with all the vendors playing games with the
taxcops and the extensive collection of statuary mostly honoring familiar folks
including one Amerigo Vespucci. And there were a few buskers, too.
The Uffizi has a remarkable policy of allowing only 750 (I think) visitors at a
time. This makes for a very pleasant, uncrowded, experience during which one can
actually see the works on display. At each entrance and exit is a machine that
counts who did what and people are let in to keep the number at 750 (or fewer, I
suppose, on slow days).

If you visit the Uffizi in the evening, two hours prior to closing, there's a good
chance you won't need to reserve tickets. We did this a couple of years ago and we
walked right in. This was at the end of May.

Patricia's is the best method; I have done the same thing with no problem. The
1.50 charge is well worth it to choose your time and avoid the line. If you are
in Florence long enough, you could also just drop by the museum and take care
of it there.
I was there last weekend. On Friday afternoon, we went to the Uffizi and got a
reservation and ticket for Sunday morning at the opening time of 8:15. (There is a
separate door to get reservations, as I recall). When our time came, we walked up
just as the doors opened, and despite a tour group and quite a few people without
reservations, we were let in as the very first visitors. It helped that we already
had the tickets in hand (with only phone reservations we would have had to buy the
tickets then). We promptly went to the gallery and had the most peaceful visit
ever--for about 30 minutes until the tour groups caught up with us!
If you want to take care of it before you go, use the phone as Patricia recommends.
It is very easy and reliable.
