I'm planning to take a driving trip to Tuscany (starting off in Rome)
sometime in the fall; October maybe? Anyone out there have any information
on weather, renting a car? Any information from anyone who's been to that
area about where to stay, things to do, restaurants, etc., will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks to all! Sandy

October is a good month usually in that part of Italy. There is a risk
that you will find misty and foggy weather; the later in the month you
go, the greater the likelihood. The crowds will not have thinned out
very much, but it won't be as crowded as in November.
My husband and I took a driving trip in Tuscany a few years ago; I
posted a trip report which you should be able to find easily on google
groups under rec.travel.europe. However, we used our own car, so I
can't tell you anything about rental cars.

I got a nice Alfa 156 diesel thru Auto Europe. It was comfortable and
did well on the roads. As to where to stay it depends on your interests
and price range. Send an inquiry directly for suggestions.
