I wrote a long reply (too long to post) suggesting two fine routes and hotels, only

If you want the reply, please tell me by e-mail, as I do not see replies on this

I thought you had agreed to stop this. If you don't want to post your answer, don't
bother to tell us you have one.

For getting there, I suggest you check out Ryan Air, which has flights to Pisa I
believe, which is fairly near to Florence. Their website is
www.ryanair.com

Let us add that Pisa is only one hour by cheap train from Florence, and the trains
leave directly from Pisa airport.

You could consider the Ryanair flights from Stansted to Pisa. There are direct trains
from Pisa airport to Florence. The evening flight may arrive too late for the last
train from the airport to Florence. In this case, you can get the city bus to the
main Pisa station, where there are more trains to Florence. Or you could spend your
1st night near Pisa station, where there are several modest hotels, and go on to
Florence, after a quick visit to the tower next day.

Why do you not see replies on the newsgroup? The purpose if to reply to the
newsgroup, not the individual.

As well as flights to Pisa check out Go's flights to Bologna. This is only about an
hour by train from Florence, and flights are often cheaper. Website is
www.go-fly.com. (Do not be tempted by Ryanair's
flights to "Bologna" as these are actually to Forli, much further away) As to
accomodation www.itwg.com is a good site.

Rather than go to Pisa and get the train to Florence, you could try a direct flight.
I think Air France and BA do LHR to Florence. I went a couple of years ago from
Stansted with SAS but they have gone bust. Their parent airline, SwissAir, might
still do it.
Ist step, do a search on www.google.com

SAS have not gone bust, and Swissair was never their parent. Do you mean Sabena?
Both Sabena and Swissair went bust. I believe we now we have SN Brussels and Swiss.

Perhaps you flew with Sabina, they DID go bust, and they were functionally a subsidiary of SwissAir.
... Anyway, SwissAir went bust!
