Tipping in Prague
I'm getting a car from Prague airport to hotel. This will be booked
by the hotel and is slightly cheaper than comparable services (although not cheaper than bus and metro). I will pay the driver directly. Fare will probably be around 500 - 600 K. What would be an appropriate tip for the driver (if any?). Thanks Derek. |

Thanks It's about four years since I was last in Prague, so my recollection might be poor, and rendered out of date by the passage of time. The rate is not bad, but not very good either. It's a tourist price, which means that there is an element of rip-off built into it. So I would pay no tip. Ivan Sever or somebody else who knows Prague better than I do might tell us what a local would be charged for the same trip. My guess is under 200Kc. -- PB The return address has been MUNGED My travel writing: http://www.iol.ie/~draoi/ |

Depending on the number of pieces of luggage and how helpful the driver is with your luggage. I would say $2-5 US per piece of luggage. |

Tourists are routinely charged far more for taxis in Prague than locals are -- typically three times as much. If Derek gets a special rate, it's still a tourist rate, but perhaps not as much as three times the local rate, but probably more than twice as much. Now, piss off and do what you are good at. -- PB The return address has been MUNGED My travel writing: http://www.iol.ie/~draoi/ |

You can buy luggage for less than that in Prauge. |

You can buy a bag big enough to hold the contents for 5usd. What do the contents have to do with anything ? And why do you want to tip someone several hours pay to put your luggage in the boot ? |

It's not how much their hourly pay is, it's how much I think their service is worth. |
