I did. The first hit photo isn't the one I had in mind, another is but a very
small version of it.

I can use it, but don't have much need to at the moment.

I'll be in almost the northernly most tip of Scotland tomorrow!

By the way, I'm now thinking I really should have bought the 'yearly
pass' for York Minster, as I'll be working more that way for a while...

I thought it was going to be one of your excellent photographs, not a
reminder of how people are crazy if they consider flight simulator
anything other than a computer game...

Tim seems to have given up. I was hoping we would discuss all the causeways that
lead nowhere.

Often they are like the desert drawings in Peru, the stones have been removed.

Watch out for specks of plutonium in your sandals.

I watched the documentary about Dounreay Fast Breeder Reactor on BBC4 last
night. A really excellent documentary, odd that they showed it so late

It's not too late to buy one.

not sure "game" is right, its a simulation. A good one (if not for
pilot training) with a vast database of planes and landscape
available.
compare real thing with FS9:-
"http://www.lawn-mower-man.co.uk/index.htm"
anybody who knows Scafell will recognise the paths here:-
"http://www.lawn-mower-man.co.uk/tigermoth.htm"
and thats the older low res scenery without active weather (with
active weather you see bugger all in ELD :-)

compare London:-
"http://www.lawn-mower-man.co.uk/towerbridge.htm"

Exactly, it's not a simulation of flying- anymore than zooming out of
google earth is a simulation of taking off in the space shuttle looking
out the back!

Yes- awful. Great for a game, but that's it.

Join Mixi and Berty the Bunyip on rec.aviation.piloting for an in depth
discussion.

MS FS simulation of a small plane is nothing like the feeling of flying a small
plane.

I've done both.

It's almost a pity that Mixi spends his time having his head smacked with a wet
haddock by real pilots nowadays.

If you count FS from 1993, then so have I. (An hour's flying lesson
from EDI in the late 80s)

There might be a newsgroup out there where Mixi doesn't have that
effect... but I doubt it.

I was thinking of a little bit later :-)

>(An hour's flying lesson

8 hours from a WWII Luftwaffe fighter pilot in a Piper Cherokee 140 in
California.
I enjoyed the tips of what to do with Russian fighters diving out of the sun and
the easiest way to shoot down US bombers "so much easier than RAF crewed
bombers, but I preferred sailing.

He has really picked the wrong one this time unless he is a masochist.

of course its a simulation of flying, just not a pilot training one

actually as you are being snooty about it, ill point out it *is* a
photo, that's why its so realistic. A photo laid over a detailed radar
height survey

It's not a simulation of flying, any more than looking at a porn film is
a simulation of sex. I mean that quite seriously, and I think when you
think about it, you'll see why. I've got nothing against Microsoft FS by
the way- I'm sure it's great fun. Even the one I played with in 2003 was
enjoyable, and the graphics were _much_ more rudimentary then.

Who said it was realistic? Not me. Fly from Kirkwall to Sumburgh in a
real aircraft, and compare it with the "photos" used in FS.

Given you're a photographer, it's hard not to laugh at that.

Some of the aerial combat games/simulators were much more fun and more
realistic. At least one was a real combat aircraft simulator adapted to run on a
PC. No driving over fields and up the side of mountains like I could do with the
demo version of the current MS FS.
