Default Ticket Prices from U.S. to France

It's been many years since I took a personal trip to France so I've
been out of touch with the trends in ticket prices. I want to trave in
June and fares are mostly in the $1,200 range (round trip). Is this
the going rate? Can anyone one recommend sources for cheaper fares?

Thanks very much.

I was just looking at this too. Even with three months
advance planning the price from Houston to Paris is
$1,394.70. Fortunately, I can use my OnePass miles
and go for $64, but I've been building those for a
couple of years. Have the prices mainly gone up the
last few years because of fuel costs (I'm sure inflation
has played a role)?

Where are you flying from? Try leaving and returning on a Tuesday or
Wednesday, and don't use the airlines' own websites.

See if charter flights are available from your area. They are usually
cheapest. Check your local newspaper's travel section.

This is an excellent website to see which scheduled airlines fly where
and when:

http://matrix.itasoftware.com

Once you find some routes you like, step away from the computer. You
should never, never use any website to book an intercontinental flight on
a scheduled airline. Instead, to get the best price, invest a little
time looking around for a bricks-and-mortar travel agent willing to give
you a discount. Again, check the travel section of your local newspaper;
that's where these types of agents are likely to advertise.

Expedia shows some midweek returns on Icelandair for just over $800,
which isn't too bad. Generally, I think the web is the best place to
find good airline fares, though when I lived in Boston, I used to try
the various student travel agents there, even when I wasn't a student.
There's at least one on Newbury Street I used- STA maybe?

Student-oriented travel agents are excellent for transatlantic flights.
I used one two years ago to fly my whole family from Canada to Hungary on
Malv, and spent nearly $1000 less than I would have had I booked it
myself on any website, including Malv's own site.

Websites are great for domestic US travel, and they just might be good
for booking charter flights on transatlantic routes. But most NA-Europe
flights are operated by IATA-member scheduled airlines. For fares for
these airlines, avoid the web like the plague unless you want to get
ripped off. Invest your energy into finding the right travel agent
instead and your wallet will thank you.

Eurofly is advertising Bologna New York for about 444 eur.. I guess the
price should be almost the same the other way.

they do not fly everyday though..
and you should add about 200 eur if you want to fly to paris CGD

Can anyone recommend a good, honst travel agent based in the U.S.?
Please recommend only an agent that you have dealt with personally.
