Default TGV Details

My wife and I will be traveling to France in a few weeks and we are planning on
taking the TGV from Paris to Nice. This is her third trip to France and my
sixth. Strabgely I have never taken the train any great distance.

I have a few questions.

1. What is the difference between First and Second class?
2. What does "Possible to face direction of travel" on the SNCF.fr site mean?
(e.g. does it mean that on all other trains the only remaining seats face
backwards?
3. Whta is the seating arrangment in 1st and 2nd classes?
4. On a Nice-Paris itenerary there is a stopover in Toulon. If this is a train
change will we have to carry our own bags between them or is it like the
airlines where they can bechecked to the final destination.
5. What are the luggage limits for the TGVs?

There are several direct TGV trains Nice - Paris, which don't require a
change:

Nice dep. 7:15 9:37 11:41 13:43 15:55 17:31
Paris arr. 12:51 15:11 17:21 19:21 21:41 23:11

Larger seats, mainly.

2nd class : two seats on each side of the corridor, 1st class : two seats on
one side of the corridor, 1 seat on the other side.

Not much. A slightly bigger seat in 1st but not (IMHO) enough of a
difference to be worth paying extra for. 2nd is quite comfortable.

Sounds right. However, they reserve you the same seat for the entire time
you are on the train so you don't have to move around. This means that there
*may* be forward-facing seats open for some parts of your trip. Nobody will
stop you moving to them but you may have to give them up when their rightful
owner gets on at some intermediate station.

    > 3. Whta is the seating arrangment in 1st and 2nd classes?

1st - 2 on one side of the aisle, 1 on the other. I'm not sure if they all
face the same direction.
2nd - 2 on each side of the aisle. Alternate rows face opposite directions
with a small table between them. You will be sitting in a block of 4 seats
around the table.

There's no luggage checking on the TGV, you carry your own.

    > 5. What are the luggage limits for the TGVs?

Basically, whatever you can carry. Luggage can be stashed in the racks at
the ends of the carriages (by the doors). Smaller bags can also be placed on
the overhead racks. Although your luggage is out of your sight on the racks,
I feel it is quite safe as:

- You have to walk through these areas to get to/from the bar/restaurant
car.
- This area is used by smokers.
- And by people who are tired of sitting.

so there is a fair amount of traffic in the area.

At least in the new TGV.

No they don't.

Only in the middle of the car (8 seats in each car).
