We are now considering the island of Syros, Greece for our mid June
vacation. We would appreciate feedback from those who have been there.

I went about seven years ago - decent archaeological museum in
terms of exhibits, not so good in terms of labelling and
presentation (there are very few islands where this is not the
case, though).
Chalandriani is easily accessible but looks confusing and
unexciting. Kastri is a short walk away, and although no longer
unique, well worth a visit. The cave of Pherekydes is also
accessible enough.
Good terraced (frankish-feudal) landscape with the odd dovecote.
The main city is nice and bustly - being the capital of the
region of the Cyclades. Gives a different feel to the whole
holiday.
Hope this helps.

Hermoupolis / Ermoupolis is the capital of the Nuts II region
"Kyklades", if I am not very much mistaken, which means it is
home to all sorts of tax offices, courts and the like that you
won't find on your normal greek island. It also used to be the
main harbour and shipyard of the Aegean before Athens became
capital and all centres of gravity in the Greek world shifted her
way.
