If Swiss Air is long gone then why is there talk of them joining Star
Alliance? I know I have seen somewhere "news" if you will of them
joining Star.

Swiss Air went the way of Sabena, they have been reincarnated as Swiss
International Airlines just as Sabena lives in the form of the SN code
attached to Brussels SN airline

The point that was being made is that Swissair (single word) is bankrupt
and is now replaced by Swiss (not "Swiss Air").

You are almost correct :)
Swiss International recently announced that it would be integrating its
airmiles program
with that of Lufthansa with immediate effect and joining The Star Alliance
in 2006
http://www.swiss.com/web/IE6/about-s...m?newsid=75030
This is not however the old Swissair which folded in 2001.
Swiss International was founded with public and private capital
on the base of the regional airline CrossAir.

Which has been absorbed by Lufthansa.

I am aware of this. That had nothing to do with my original question.

If you're aware that the airline is called "Swiss", not "Swiss Air", then
I'd like to suggest the following. Go to Google, type "Swiss, Star
Alliance" (or omit the comma, it doesn't matter), and the very first hit
is the information you're looking for.

Your orignal post for review and reflection
Hi all,
Recently I heard that Swiss Air would be joining the Star Alliance.
Does anyone know when this is actually supposed to happen?
Thanks for your input.......
djb
People are rightly pointing out that SWISS AIR is not in existence and
giving you info on Swiss the carrier that is becoing a part of STAR.
Thank you would be nice.

What would be NICE as you put it would be for those who THINK they know
every damned thing in the world to NOT lecture someone who is asking a
simple question.
The term Swiss Air----et al did not keep you people from knowing EXACTLY
what airline I was talking about---now did it?
Answer is NO.
