Default summer sailing: Dalmatia, Ionean, Dodekanesos, Marmaris?

We are planning our summer vacation.
We have four possibilities to go sailing on the Mediterranean:
1. Croatia (Dalmatia: Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik)
2. Greece, Ionean islands (Lefkas, Korfu)
3. Greece, Dodekanesos (Kos, ...)
4. Turkey, South coast (Marmaris, Kekova)

We're looking for:
a. wind - of course, we want to sail
b. pretty islands, inlets, ... - nice natural scenery
c. picturesque harbours - but not too crowded [1]

Can you give us some hints?

[1] We have been in Hydra (Saronic), in Spetses (Argolic), in Mykonos
city -
all very picturesque places, but rather crowded.

Can I suggest www.medsailing.co.uk which is based at Nydri
on Lefkas.

Thank you for the reply.
Actually, I was wondering which of the 4 regions best match our wishes
of wind, scenery and picturesque-but-not-too-crowded.

I have personal experience of Lefkas only !

It has everything you are looking for but the
other places you mention may also have
them.

Two years ago I sailed in Greece, last year I went to Croatia. This year
I'm returning there, and it won't be the last time.

My experiences:
- Rentals in Croatia are somewhat cheaper then in Greece.
- Quality of the boats is usually good. My impression of the Croats was
pretty good. They seem to be more efficient than the Greeks.

- The sailing area is awesome. I could spent the next two years there.
May of the islands are inhabited, or have very low population. A part
from a few obvious touristy spots. The Eastern Adriatic is considered by
many to be the best sailing area in Europe.
- We certainly had sufficien wind last time (september). We even sailed
with one reef in the main most of the days.

- Port facilities are better then in Greece. In the yacht harbors you
are expected to moor stern to, just like in Greece, but nearly all
harbours have mooringlines for this purpose, so you don't have to use
your anchor. Saves on the stress. It does mean that a source of comic
relief has been eliminated though :-) Many smaller harbours also provide
water and electricity (rare in Greece), although water may be limited.
Fully equiped marina's are quite common. But you don't need to go there
every night.
- Many bays have mooring buoys. Which is convenient, as the bottom is
often not very suited for anchoring. You will be expected to pay for
though. A man from the local municipality will visit you in the evening
to collect the mooring fee, and take away your trash. Remember that
Croatia is not member of the EU, so they have to finance the
construction of facilities themselves. A problem Greece doesn't have...

Not true, you haven't shopped around and you certainly haven't bargained. Something that
anyone visiting Greece should be aware of.

Irrelevant, not what the man asked.

Good for you, go there and stay there.

What islands are talking about? How can you even compare the Greek islands to those in
the Adriatic sea? What gauge shall we use? Their number, their size, their beauty, their
hospitality, their food, their entertainement, their history? Don't make me laugh.

    > - We certainly had sufficien wind last time (september). We even sailed

Sufficient is all it is in the Adriatic. Go anywhere in the Aegean in late August, early
September and then talk about winds.

Again irrelevant, not what the man asked for.

Save the ramblings and political innuendoes you germanic freak show.
We are all aware of Croatia's allegience to the Nazis and I can certainly see why you
would go on mumbling about Croatia. But keep your way off subject innuendoes to yourself
or the appropriate newsgroup.
