The Petite France area and the Tannery Quarter - half-timbered houses
and canals.
Cathedral
European Parliament area.
Try a boat trip along the canals for starters - then re-visit the
areas you like on foot.
Plenty of places to eat in the centre - even those that look "posh"
are often affordable.
Try the Restaurant du Daphin opposite the cathedral for good eats.
Nice lunchtime snack, simple and cheap, is spaetzele (noodles) with
melted cheese and green salad.
Many places serve another Alsace speciality - tarte flambée in French,
Flaemmekuche (sp??) in German/Elzaessisch - like a thin pizza covered
with smoked bacon, onion and cheese.

Colmar - just follow signs from station to old town - lots of
half-timbered places such as the Pfisterhaus and the Maisn des Tetes
(house of heads - load of wooden heads carved on it).. If you're into
mediaeval art, the Unterlinden Museum is a real must.

Lots of fancy Flash in the website, but worth a wait.

Good, fast, local train service, and they are close to one another.

Colmar is one of those charming places that it it's own "major site." The
Unterlinden Museum and several churches are worthwhile, and are described in
guidebooks (and at the TI). But mostly it is a pleasure to wander and make
one's own discoveries.
Strasbourg is maybe 40 minutes away by rail.
Have a great trip!
