Stockholm - Sweden
Hi,
I am thinking of travelling to Stockholm for 3 days 2 nights weekend
early on July, any recommendations on where to stay and any recommended
sites to visit? Thank you

I stayed 2 nights at the Ibis Spanga, I cannot recommend it. The location
sucks and the hotel is tatty.
I then stayed one night at Ibis Kista, it is much better. It is still an
out of
town location, but it was new, walking distance from the T-bane (once
you work out the route) and was next to a small supermarket so you
can buy some provisions (it's also next to a Mcdonalds, but I don't
think that this is an advantage.)
You can gets some other choices of hotels on hrs.de. Note that lots of
the cheaper ones are on the edge of town.
The Vasa Museum is definately a place to visit. I spent all afternoon
there, it was superb

More old fashioned, it's on the second floor and above of a
building on the Drottninggatan, the pedestrianized shopping
street leading down to Gamla Stan (the Old Town). Nice rooms,
great breakfast buffet that comes with the room. Kind of a
gracious place.
Unfortunately, they've put those modular shower/toilet units in
the rooms, but the baths down the hall are still there for a real
bath.
It's only short walk to Central Station and the train station.
We originally arrived at Central Station and took a cab, but the
cabbie couldn't find the hotel (since he couldn't drive in
Drottninggatan) and he wasted some of our money. It is a bit hard
to spot unless you're right in front of it.

Swedish Tourist Offices are very good at offering cut price hotel deals in
summer. In Stockholm we used the Hotellcentralen agency in Central station.

Two years ago I stayed at the Adlon. From my unpublished 2003 hotel
reviews:

645 SEK, breakfast included.
5 nights, June.
If you know the way, the hotel is less than 5 minutes away from the airport
train/bus. It's hard to imagine a more central location, though the romantic
might prefer something in Gamla Stan (I could see a Burger King from my room).
Deliberately oldfashioned in decor, with tasteful rooms. My room was nicely
colour-coordinated, with wooden floors and a little rug. The rug really
tied the room together. If you're tired of bland chain hotels, this place is
worth checking out. The lobby had a PC with internet access for free, a nice
gesture.
Given the usual Swedish price level, this was a good rate for a centrally
located hotel of good quality. I would be surprised if Stockholm offered
better deals.
