Default So Long

So another newsgroup becomes an offshoot of alt.flame
where the terminally clueless exchange pointless insults

Pity it used to be so useful to be able to discuss European
travel with others around the globe.

I'll look in again in a few weeks but for the moment the
signal to noise ratio is so high I'm off

Default Filter Help Needed (Was:Re: So Long)

It occurred to me that since almost all the noise is cross-posted, it
should be possible with a sophisticated newsreader to filter
cross-posts. I use Outleak Express. I can filter individual senders by
name, but I'd like to find a newsreader would have the capability of
accepting posts from rec.travel.europe and filtering "rec.anything else"
? I could then accept the two groups I participate in, but the rest
would go in the dumper. Surely there is a way...

Thanks,

Tom

What you're looking for is something to filter the "xref" field. I use a
unix newsread (for my own reasons, though I don't necessarily recommend
that!), but I understand that XNews
(www.download.com/3000-2164-10144167.html) supports it, and there is some
sort of filtering that can be done with outlook express using nfilter
(www.nfilter.org).

And what you'll want to filter is alt.politics.*, but I suppose you could
limit it to just one newsgroup. That will delete things like air travel
and such, which may be relevant.

The Dutch newspapers report that Kerry intends to run in 2008.

He'll be disabused of that idea in short order.

Damn, I've just contributed to a political thread ...

Another 8 years of Bush. That oughta make the world happy.
