In the British Isles smoking in public places is currently banned in
Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales. England's ban will come into
force on 1st July 2007.

I've been on a pub crawl in Bergen. It was certainly fun- just
expensive.

You'd hardly know either. Most of the pubs here still have those
offensive (smoking policy: smoking allowed throughout) stickers on the
entrances. With luck it will be raining heavily on July 1.

cant say I like the **** the smokers approach. I would have preferred
some compromise so everybody could live thier lives the way they wish.
The staff issue probably makes it impossible though.

As Churchill said "magnaminity in victory". or something.

I doubt that very much actually. Indeed, a 2 second google search
brought up plenty in Reykjavik. I doubt you'll have as many per capita
as you do in the UK, certainly.

It sounds a bit heavy handed, but I'm constantly being ****ed by their
smoke. Even walking behind someone on the street can be uncomfortable.

I was sick of constantly having to think about whether or not someone
would light up next to me in a restaurant.

We aren't going again, until
a) There is a real no smoking ban.
b) The Kurds stop killing tourists/gas bottles stop mysteriously exploding
killing tourists.

Probably not in my life time.

See UK FO web site for warnings.

you wont be in future, hence magnanimity in victory.

I can live with that.

It hasn't happened to me for some considerable time actually, the
Wasdale Head has been non smoking for years.

Of course I will- they'll all be standing outside the entrance to the
pubs and restaurants, blocking my way!

I can usually move. Some cigarettes don't half stink though. How does
the lawaffect a bus shelter. When it's raining, I frequently have to
share a limited space with a smoker. I hope they're included too.

Just a few weeks ago, we left a London restaurant when we realised you
could smoke anywhere. As I've written before, there are plenty of
restaurants here which are already non-smoking, although some have
smoking bars, and there's that peeing in the pool analogy again. We were
at the Chaophraya Thai restaurant here recently, which I thought was
excellent (perhaps as close to taste of Thai food in Thailand I've had
here so far) but it has a large bar area on the ground floor, and it
wafted up...
