Default Scotsmen are not outdoor people

Two Scotsmen died on a high plateau in Norway and a third one narrowly
escaped the same destiny when a rescue team accidentally crossed his path.
How come anyone can die in circumstances like that?

According to the Daily Record, these clowns went up without proper
gear:
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm...name_page.html

<sorry...long URL...>

Not only did one of the deceased travel without proper skis, none of
them had proper clothing or (apparently) overnight emergency gear.
Their Norwegian friends easily out-distanced them, leaving the cold,
unprepared Scotsmen behind. Some blame can perhaps be leveled at the
Norwegians for not looking after their pudgy pals, but these guys
screwed themselves.

I've climbed alpine over 3000 meters and I know the rules. Nowadays,
even on a day hike at low altitude, I always bring a few essentials to
ensure I will survive at least one unexpected overnight in relative
comfort. I've seen sunny alpine meadows turn suddenly overcast and
snowy. One fine day at a summit in the North Cascades, it went from
sunny and breezy to full-on snowstorm in the time it took to me to eat
my damn lunch! To make matters worse, I jammed my ankle on a rotten
log on the way down. I was lucky to have a good hiking partner and
some ibuprofin. We finally got down just as the sun set.

These Scots may not have been "outdoor people". But world-class
alpinists die up there, too. Shit happens. We should all feel sorry
for Scots, and sorrier still that they weren't Texans.

Nyuk!

Yup. I've skied in that area myself, and looking back I was bloody
stupid. I was on my own, and did not have full survival equipment, or
sufficient experience in dealing with bad conditions. I've done stuff
like digging snowholes in training situations, but not "for real". I
was tempted out by the fabulous weather, and in fact the weather held
good, but the result could have been different !!

the weather on the cairngorm plateau in Scotland is often as bad as
you get anywhere, most scots would probably know that. Unfortunatly
real people dont conform to stereotypes.
