I plan to stop in Salzburg (Austria) on my way to Vienna from Munich. How many
nights would you recommend for Salzburg? Also, is Innbruck (wrong spelling)
worth a one-night stay as well?

Innsbruck, maybe a ½ day but Innsbruck is somewhat of a detour on the way
Salzburg-Munich although you travel through the impressive alp-massives.
Perhaps you would like to consider Berchtesgaden nearby Salzburg, nice town
with wonderful surrounding nature. You've Königsse,Kehlstein (Eagles
nest)and the saltmine (same as you can reach from Salzburg)

Depends on how much you like churches; Salzburg is peppered with them.
After the Festung Hohensalzburg and the Mozartgeburtshaus the
remainder (excluding churches) is worth a day, maybe two if you're
into The Sound of Music. If you just want to relax and stroll through
quaint streets, there are few better places.

Salzburg, however, is an excellent jumping-off place for tours to
other places; it's very central. The Ice Caves in Werfen,
Berchtesgarten, the Grossglockner glacier, and the Salt Mines.

There are a few bus tours you might want to take from Salzburg. I'd
recommend the lake district, the Salzkammergut, which is nearby, home
of beautiful villages, mountains and lakes--all that tourists often
think Austria is...

I would suggest that 1 night is enough unless you want to use Salzburg as a
base for day trips to Bertchesgaden, Obersalzburg etc. Nearby and most
definitely worth a night's stay is the village of Hallstadt. A lot of
travel books rate it as the most picturesque village in Europe. The entire
village is pedestrian village and only about a 10 minute walk from one end
to the other. Every view is a postcard and the salt mine above the village
is a nice diversion. There are several notable restaurants in the village
and wild game is the local specialty.
