Default Ryanair Insurance

My son was due to fly to Liverpool tomorrow but cannot now, having been
struck down by gastroenteritis.

He took the insurance included during the booking. What do you think his
chances are of retrieving some of his money?

No-one asked you about your lack of crystal balls, Alan. The question was
directed at the civil people in this group who may have had a similar
experience and wished to share it.

i was not being uncivil at all, the answer depends on the conditions of the
insurance and if they were all met, and as the ng dont know this the
insurance company are surely the best people to ask as they will have all
the facts at their disposal, everyones experience of this sort of scenario
will depend upon different factors at the time of the claim , --------- so
please don't get excited and chuck your toys out of your pram

It'd be a pretty crap insurance if it didn't cover being unable to travel because of
illness. But he might need a doctor's note confirming he was unfit to fly. Have you
checked the insurance T&C's on the ryanair web site?

Seem to be a typical insurance case. He'll probably need a doctors
certificate and proof that it's not a permanent illness known when he booked
the trip.
You can easy read the insurance conditions on Ryans homepage.
B.t.w my Visa card have an insurance for such cases built in when the card
is used as payment for trips. Possibly the card used have something
similar.

But it may, as many do, exclude cover if another insurance covers it. Then you can
get into a pissing contest as to which insurance pays. Being doubly insured can be
worse!

Mentioning it to either insurance company makes it worse.

You usually have to unless you want to commit fraud.

I don't buy policies that cover the same risk.

But you have no choice if you want medical insurance
and pay with a credit card that gives cancellation insurance

You will have great difficulty finding a travel ploicy that
covers medical costs only.

My medical costs are fully covered by my normal medical insurance.

You chucked your crystal ball out, prompting the toy exodus. Let's shake
hands.

I have to ring a premium rate number to get on the 'Insurance Queue'. If
successful thereafter, my son will get all but the 20% excess.

I'll let you know.
