Default Rome or Stockholm in September?

Trying to book tickets now, for Labor Day week.

Been to Rome in late November when it was cold (but still big crowds) so
looking for better weather, which would help with trips to Naples, Capri
and other day-trips.

Interested in Scandinavia and would be nice to maybe pair Stockholm with
one or two other capitals during a week trip. Never been up there.

Flight costs are about the same. Accommodations are probably comparable
price wise? Would be interested in renting an apt.

Guess the crowds would still be bad in the first week of September in
Rome though.

If you're staying in Rome, a day trip to Capri makes no sense. The fast
trains from Rome to Naples are around two hours. With transportation to the
Roma Termini station and arriving a few minutes early, that's 2.5 to 3 hours
each way--total 5-6 hours.

Then you need to do the same thing in Naples. If you take a taxi to the
ferry, wait a few minutes for the hydrofoil (the fast way to go) then take
it, it's at least an hour (probably more like an hour and a half) each way.
Then you need to take the funicular (or a taxi) to the town of Capri. That's
another three hours total, minimum.

So you're talking at least 8-9 hours for transportation, without even seeing
anything of Capri. You'll have almost no time to see anything there.

Capri is very beautiful, and deserves much more than an hour or so there.
I've been there several times (most recently this Spring, for four days),
and have stayed as long as a week,

Don't even consider Capri as a day trip! It's just too far. You should
base yourselves around Naples somewhere instead.

I found Stockholm to be quite nice with some nice scenery, but a bit
boring. Copenhagen was much more interesting and pretty.

Costs in Scandinavia are bound to be more expensive.

Yes, Rome is crowded year round.

It's not far from Salerno, by hydrofoil, which is also a good base.
