Has anyone had any luck finding a quad room (two
adults, two kids age 11 and 8) in a five star hotel in Rome? Any particular
recommendations. We are
looking for something in Centro Storico area. (Near
the via Vennetto or Spanish Step maybe).

Any reason why it has to be a quad room? Can two adjacent twin rooms be ok,
with a connecting door perhaps? You are more likely to find it than a quad
room in a 5-star hotel. Or if money's no object, you can perhaps get a suite
with two bedrooms, or a serviced apartment (which will be cheaper)?

go here: http://www.italyhotel.com/
and plug in 4 people, 1 room. Very limited choices. Some of the
4*'s listed are also supposed to be pretty nice.

I would think almost by definition a 5 star hotel would not be one which
jams 4 people into a room -- those are generally 2 stars. Might want to
explore suites or get adjoining rooms in a 4 star -- less money, more
rooms.

In the US I know hotels tend not to guarantee adjoining rooms (or even rooms
on the same floor). In Europe are
adjoining rooms guaranteed? Would you then just book
by phone, rather than online? (I don't see any online
reservation systems that let you ask for adjoining rooms.)

If you want anything out of the ordinary, fax is usually the best way to
book. It largely avoids misunderstandings and language problems.
