Default Rice Steamer in Rome

Hello,

I'm looking for a rice steamer in Rome. I've asked around and tried
several electronics stores and department stores, but none have one or
know where I could buy one. Could anyone give me recommendations of
stores that might carry a rice steamer?

Thanks,
Kirk

Does Rome have a Chinese or Japanese area? Although they're
quite easily found here in the U.S., I have seen them in
fairly large supermarkets catering to orientals, too.
(Other nationalities eat rice, also, but it seems to be the
major staple food for most of those from East Asia.)

Rome does have a small Chinese area, near Santa Maria Maggiore. Sorry,
don't remember the exact street address, but I visited several markets
there this spring.

Have a look here:

http://www.allthebrands.com/search.a...rice%20cookers

One of them is Amazon.com in America who will ship it to you but it will
take an age to come. You can pay with Visa or something similar so it will
get around the currency problem. It will not be cheap so it is a measure of
fairly last resort.

Amazon UK have three but I am not sure if they deliver to Italy.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...775154-1270229

There is a French Amazon : www.amazon.fr and a German one: www.amazon.de
but I couldnt find anything. Basically, because I don't know what they are
called in those languages.

If you get one, make a new post and I will give you some good links for
Rijsttafel.

Lol
the guy asks for Rome and that's what you give him
Nice useless answer
The answer is simple, any chinese would know that
and there are plenty in Rome but certainly not in the historical center
I've seen them in stores around Tiburtina, you simply have to visit the not
so touristy places
Thumbs down so called zhu de

You could try this place. I forgot about it in my previous post.

http://www.centrocommercialecasilino.it/

It has an IperCoop and a Euronics which, I think, is closed for
refurbishment at the moment. I seem to remember they had most Domestic
Electricial Goods there.

There are probably quite a few Centri Commerciali now in the peripheria of
Rome. Most of the big ones have a Euronics shop.

Hope this helps.

There are quite a few Chinese businesses in the gloomier streets around
the Termini. Don't worry, quite safe just gloomy; lots of old grammas
and small children. In fact, the Chinese and African business
neighborhoods are to me most fascinating as lots of folks live "over
the shop" bill

I just don't get it - rice steamers - pan, water, rice, lid...worked
for centuries before some marketing guy convinced us we all needed
rice steamers to make perfect rice...

I wondered about the same thing.

Obviously you have not had to clean the stove after your pan boils
over, forgotten as you browse through rte?

Anyway, I'm astonished that the OP can't find a rice cooker in Rome - I
bought one in our local supermarket in France, and there are fewer
Chinese living round here than I can imagine being the case in Rome.

I am a better cook than to let things boil over...ever looked at what
kitchen shops sell these days? Rice cookers; special pans to cook
hard boiled eggs; a pan with a strainer built into the top because
apparently some people can't drain pasta into a colander without
pouring half of it into the sink, etc.
