Recommendations for hotel in Paris?

I'm thinking of taking a last minute-ish trip to Paris this weekend
(via train from Mannheim, Germany). I'm not super familiar with Paris
and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for hotels (especially
boutique or family run). I'm really not familiar with the districts
either -- but somewhere lively and fun would suit me. Short walking
distance to Champs-Elysees would be somewhat ideal.
Thanks in advance!
cheers,

The Champ-Elysées district is not really the kind of district where you
will find small family run hotels.
Some days ago I was in the place d'Italie district (13th arrondissement)
and I noticed a number of small but apparently decent hotels. It is a
decent district, where middle class people live. Quick metro access to
quartier latin. Direct Metro access (but longer time) to Champs Elysées.
Curious Butte aux cailles hill nearby.
