Default Quick question about Deutsche Bahn prebooked tickets

I have registred with the Deutsche Bahn and bought an online ticket and
printed it out. I now find that I may need to travel the return leg at a
different time, but I don't know until the day. Can I just get on a
different train and get the conductor to change it?

It depends on the tariff. If it is a "normal" ticket it is valid on any
train until the expiry date. It it printed on the ticket.

If you have a ticket that has been booked more than a week in advance you
got it somewhat cheaper, but it is "valid only on dates and trains shown",
like in a charter airline.

Jacqueline is right: ask Deutsche Bahn, they ought to know.

When I look at it carefully, it says:
Gültigkeit: 20.12.2006 - 19.01.2007 Hinfahrt bis 21.12.2006
Rückfahrt an 2 aufeinander folgenden Tagen innerhalb der Gültigkeit

I think that means it's valid for travel on other dates.

You are correct.

What the text above means is:

- Valid: 20.12.2006 -19.01.2007.
- Valid for outward journay until 21.12.2006.
- Return journay on two consecutive days within the period of validity.

The ticket is valid from 20-12-2006 -19-01-2007

You have to start by 21-12-2006

You have to return on 2 consecutive following days within the validity of the
ticket. ????

Why does the return journey have to be on two consecutive days?

it means you may have stopovers in the return,
but the journey should not exceed 2 days

It still doesn't make sense. Why qualify the return and not the outgoing leg?

depends on the ticket, i.e. whether the tariff is bound to a specific train
or not. In the latter case you don't need any changes.
If your ticket includes a reservation it will be for the original time only,
of course.

not necessarily true, as you can also buy in advance regular tariff trickets
(which for some connections might be your only choice when the available
amount of cheaper non-flexible tickets has already been sold off).
So, look at your ticket, whether it says that it's for the specific connection
and time only or not.

It has to be *at most* on two consecutive days. If it takes you less, e.g.
one day only, that's also fine :-)

that one's also limited to two consecutive days.
