Questions about Rotterdam

I am about to visit Rotterdam for the second time and have some
questions I hope you can help me with.
1) Nightlife.
I know the Old Harbour and like it very well. I don't like discos and
nightclubs playing techno music and the like, and I don't go out to
dance. I like pubs, live music (rock, jazz, blues, classic, folk etc)
and (not too flashy) cafes. I am open for suggestions. Please add a
brief description of the places you suggest. Downtown and the area
around Alexander metrostation is of interest.
2) Places to eat.
First I seach for somewhere suitable for bringing a book or newspaper
and have an affordable and tasty late breakfast in the weekends.
Downtown and the area around Alexander metrostation is of interest. I
brown cafe or the like and somewhere relatively quiet would be ideal.
3) getting around
What kind of multiride tickets are there and how much do they cost?
Does it cover all buses, trams, metros etc in the city area?
4) prepaid cell phone cards.
How do I get the best offer?
Thank you in advance,
Jan

Since yesterday I would like to add Delft to the 'must see' section. 15
minutes or 4,50 Euros by train from Rotterdam, a nice kind of
micro-Amsterdam looking town with 90'-100.000 inhabitnats and lots of
great cafes and restaurant.

See http://www.ret.rotterdam.nl/ret_eng/...n/prijs_x.html
(seems to be outdated however; I think the prices went up a few cents
on Jan 1st.

I have not background for definite recommendations. There are lots and
lots of them and we sort of bumped into one we were farily safisfied
with. Some bartenders we spoke to were very well updated on the local
restaurants. If you are not in a hurry you could try starters at one
restaurant, maindishes at the next and jump to a third one for dessert.
My lonely planets guides only had a few suggetions for such a
relatively small town and from the bartenders I spoke to the situation
tends to change as chefs come and go anyway.
Good luck,
Jan
