Not surprising, but disgusting. I would hate to see Prague suffer because of
this, but if you are going to rip people off and then have the city not take
it seriously..
Did anyone else find it more than a little disturbing that the mayor said he
expected to get charged more, posing as an Italian, but not by as much as he
did. Is it okay for Czech cabbies to rip off tourists "a little bit"?
And what about the comment that the driver COULD lose his permit if he
re-offends?
This sounds too much like "I'm sorry we got caught.

yes. try to agree about prices with taxi drivers..
they will easily refuse to take you anywhere unless
you accept their offer.
the only way I found out was to call AAA radio taxi..
they charged the real fare. and it was at least 50% of the cheapest fare
charged by other taxis.

I have used AAA for over 30 years and any locals wanting a minicab will
go to them: Country code plus 420 222 333 222 and, if it helps, the
operators speak English. And I believe German and French as well.
As a "guide price" no flag taxi from the Airport to Praha 1 should
charge more than $21 £11 English pounds or to outlying areas of Praha
no more than $30 or £16 English pounds (at current exchange rates).
Once you are in the city there is absolutely no need to use flag
taxi's. The trams run 24 hours a day and have a website in English.
Daytime 22/23 (4.30-Midnight) cover the main areas of interest to
tourists. The route numbers change between Midnight and O355 but
cover, at less frequency, the same major routes.
Beware "Doors are Closing" announcement if you have elderly/children
with you. They close very quickly.
Kind regards,
Alan M. Watkins
