Many of you guys seem to know Europe extensively, so let's make a poll to see if
there are any surprises
In which country (or city) would you live without hesitation ? your choice must be
different from the country/city you are living right now ?

Amsterdam. Elegant, nice-sized city, high standard of living, decent galleries, and a
very liberal government (and that's not because I want to smoke pot... they just have
very common-sense policies on a lot of things). The rest of Holland is really boring
though. So it would have to be Amsterdam or nowhere.

Berlin. Got to know it a long while back when there were two of 'em (!) - still find
it historically fascinating, because it's still a place where East meets West. It'll
take a while before there's real unity - the "Wall in the Head" is still a reality
and for that reason the city and its location capture my interest. It's vibrant, lots
of wonderful pine forests surround it, superb public transport network, different
neighbourhoods have really different atmosphere/characteristics...only downside =
awful winters!

Edinburgh. Even though I am English and my partner is Welsh we have always said that
if we had to move back to the UK, it would be to Scotland. --==++AJC++==--

Well excuse me. The rest of Holland may on the surface appear boring but once you get
to know it you will find, as I did, that deepest Dutch suburbia is in fact the centre
of the civilized world.

first choice would Budapest, Hungary - beautiful, cheap, and fun, but I've already
lived there so I guess that's cheating. second, Palma, Mallorca (must be obvious)
but maybe that's stretching 'city' in the sense meant, therefore, like another
poster: Barca.

Edinburgh has & always has had very anti car policies for people from outside the
city. Even 20 years ago the main roads from Glasgow and the south stopped 15km
outside the city. Now, it's wall to wall, fines, tickets penalties, they even
have mini busses of traffic wardens prowling the approach roads, (The so-called
blue meanies). Sometimes the majority of vehicles in the city traffic are said
mini busses!
My son's employers (a division of GE) have just closed down their office in Edinburgh
for just this reason.
Right at this moment Glasgow's a better place.
