I think what tile means to say is that the big castle in Bratislava is now
used as an art museum. When I was there a decade ago, I remember (I think)
that the Slovak National Museum was in there too. Devin is a second castle,
where the Danube and the (um, other river) meet.
I admire anyone who can converse in a language other than their own, even if
it's not perfect :-)

David, I enjoyed it there. 'Course, I'm half Slovak by birth. Don't forget
to check out the "Super Peasant" monument near the center. And of course,
you can't miss the UFO bridge. Seriously though, prices for crystal are
much better than Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. And the palace is lovely, as
is the main church.

A train is public transport, and they do villages too.

Actually, there are some great villages in the east of Slovakia, and
the Tatras in the north that would be well worth exploring. If it were
me, perhaps a week out of the three doing that would be worth
considering.
Still, they have 23 days in an area I spent 2 months in, and I still
feel I missed lots.

rushing from city A to city B just to say you've been there is
pointless,
better to take your time and 'do' less, but enjoy more.

Eurocity / Intercity or express trains would be in the upper price region, while you might be able to find cheaper
option as once in a day.

checked is 77zl ... which one I should believe?
