Default Paris hotels for family of four

Our (unrealistic?) goal is to find a place for the first week of
August that fits the following criteria:
- has two sleeping areas/rooms (one w/ a double, one with 2 twins
(for 12 y.o. son/13 y.o daughter)
- in the 7th (preferably near Rue Cler, preferably) or 5th
(preferably between Pantheon and Notre Dame) arrondissements
- has a French feel to it
- costs close to 200 euros (can be a little flexible with going
over if it has the first 3
Can anyone recommend a place that fits our wish list?
If you know of something with 3 out of 4, pass that along, too!
Thanks,
Mary

I stayed in Paris 3 years ago with 4 children - eventually came up with
youth hostel as the most economic option - especially as when there are 4+
people in party you get a private shower and loo. We stayed at
www.aijparis.com and the 6 person dorm had downstairs 1 set of bunks ,a
single bed and the bathroom with a spiral staircase going up to another room
with another set of bunks and single bed. Very good budget accommodation
and the children all loved it.

if you are spending a week then the obvious choice is an apartment .
You can probably get something in that range for a week and have the
advantage of a kitchen and social area as well. A couple of rooms even
if it were possible is not as pleasant since cheap hotels generally have
no social area in the lobby and the rooms are not pleasant hang out
places.

try locaflats.com or just google 'paris apartments' and look at the sites

August is not a prime time to visit Paris - so availability, especially
this early should not be a problem

Last summer, we had a nice apartment in the 5th. There were 3 or us and it
wasn't large, but you might fit in.. The gal who's apartment it is, also
runs a website for just that purpose and she's got lots of properties on
it.. You should give a look at:
http://www.apartexchange.com/
We were totally happy with everything. If you talk to Christine or write
her, please say we sent you.

Gawd, I must be getting old. There were 4 of us--all adults, if you count a
16 year old as an adult.. 2 beds, mom and dad in one and sisters in the
other one..
Sorry for misinformation..

Agreed.

My family (two adults, two children) are traveling to Paris in April. We've
rented an apartment for the week from http://www.paris-perfect.com. We
typically rent apartments instead of staying in hotels.... more space, less
money, and more of a feeling of "living" in the city we're visiting. Check it
out.

if you're staying a full week, you might want to consider either an
apartment hotel, such as the Citadines chain or renting a real apartment.
The former gives you hotel style services but the advantage of kitchen, etc.
and the second option let's you experience 'living' in Paris. There have
been many threads on the subject here, which you can find in google groups.

Thanks for all the great input! I'm following up on all of them and
if anyone else out there has ideas to share - jump in!
So far, the biggest obstacle to getting the atmospher we want, where
we want it, for the price we want to pay is finding a place that has a
double bed separate from the two twins (most are 2 doubles in the same
room...)
Two bad are kids aren't the same sex - it would make things a lot
easier

there are hotels -- usually low end ones -- that have family rooms --
family rooms generally have several narrow single beds -- don't know one
in Paris -- but I'll bet there are some

Would I be considered just "too weird" if I suggest that the guys share a
bed and the girls share a bed, at least for the few days you are in Paris.?

some vacation

in fact -- parents in the same room with kids is 'some vacation' --
there are so many ways to find better accomodations -- try those first

Mary,
I just finished my own hotel search on rec.travel.europe archives and
other internet sites to plan my own Paris trip in May.

One hotel that had good reviews for large rooms and family
accomodations is the Palais Bourbon hotel in the 7th Arr. It was on
my "short list", but since it is just my wife and I we decided to stay
somewhere else in the 7th that was a little cozier. You should be
able to find several reviews, etc. with a Google search for "Palais
Bourbon".

Good luck & enjoy your trip.

Jim

The Palais Bourbon is a definite possibility. As a result of my
search, I found two other possibilities.

Any input on these two hotels?

Hotel La Bourdonnais (in the 7th, near Eiffel Tower)(If you've already
posted in rec.travel.europe, I've already read your input Hope you
don't mind if I email you for more details... Input I've read so far
is positive )

Hotel Residence Henri IV (in 5th on Rue Bernadins, not the one on Ile
de la Cite)
There was on negative reference (from a while ago), but no details so
I'm a little leary about going forward with this one.

Both have rooms/apartments large enough for us and are in great
locations.

Thanks for any comments
