Default Paris Help Wanted

We will be in Paris for our first time soon staying at Holiday Inn
Bastille at 11 Rue de Lyon as part of an organized tour and have most
of our first day as free time. Because we will be very tired and
jetlagged (7 hr time diff) after a long flight we thought the batobus
might be a fairly relaxing way to get our first look at the sights of
Paris and make a stop or two like the Eiffel Tower.

Could someone familiar with the area comment on this plan and give us
some advice as to the best way to get from the hotel to one of the
closer batobus stops. Should we take a bus or metro to Hotel de Ville
(which bus/metro, where would we catch it, what stop to get off at) or
walk or take a bus to Jardin des Plantes (how far to walk or bus
directions) to get to the batobus.

Would also appreciate suggestions for a good reasonable cafe for lunch
that would fit into this plan possibly near the Eiffel Tower.

Other suggestions welcome as well.

Thanks so much for your help.

Linda

Hotel de Ville (City Hall) appears to be about 1 km from your hotel, a 20
minute walk.
There is no shortage of cafes in Paris. From my experience, I would suggest
that you walk 2-3 blocks away from any major tourist sight and you will
find cafes that offer better food and better prices. They all post their
menus and many of them have outdoor seating, so just walk around and look
at the posted menus and the food people are being served. We have no idea
what sort of food you like or how you like it done, but you will see it on
the tables.

There are no reasonable cafes near the Eiffel Tower, best is go up the
stairs of the Trocadero which are in front of the tower , but the other side
of the Seine and you will find some (not the cheapest) on the avenue.
Otherwise, go elsewhere (anywhere)
As for the batobus, the advice was good, walk it !

There are many good cafes in the La Motte Piquet Metro station
area, nearer than the Troc and less sterile.
