Flybe http://www.flybe.com fly twice a day, 3 times on sat + sun, but you
will have to book well in advance to get a decent fare.

Although, looking at the above and the BA website, BA is coming up with much
cheaper fares.

The secret of getting an inexpencive flight is to look at several
comapanies and destinations close to where you're heading...

Ryanair does cheap flights from Paris (not CDG) to Glasgow
http://www.ryanair.co.uk/ and it's only about a 50 minute train ride
from Glasgow to Edinburgh

Yes, except it is from Beauvais to Prestwick.
Prestwick is more than 2 hours away by train from Edinburgh (and
that is by fast train!).
Fly into Newcastle (£94 return from CDG with FlyBe) and take the
train!

Last week of October is winter timetables starting I think. So you will just
have to keep trying until the system gets programmed.
That period might also be school half-term holidays.

take a cab for a very short ride to queens station for the train to
edinburgh :-)
