Default Paris - Bercy : where is it?

Hi,

I am catching a train from Paris-Bercy to Rome next month. My question
is: I could not find Paris-Bercy on any of the several maps that I
have. The closest I could come to a train station was Gare de Lyon
(near Boulevard de Bercy?). Can someone tell me how to locate this
station?

Also I am supposed to meet with some people at Paris-Bercy (tour
group). Is there a meeting point or some easily recognisable landmark
in the station where we could meet? Greatly appreciate any advise.
Thanks.

The station Paris-Bercy is indeed in the Boulevard de Bercy, adjacent
to the Gare de Lyon. You can find both stations on this map
. The
Gare de Lyon is in the top of the image, Paris-Bercy in the bottom
right. As I understand it, the station is mainly used for car-carrying
trains and for some trains that don't fit in the Gare de Lyon. The
nearest metro station is Bercy.

Can't help you with this, but the station doesn't look that big.

Bercy is, I think, a suburban station and I can't believe the train for Rome
isn't from Gare de Lyon. The good news is that Bercy is one stop away on
Metro line 14 in a south-easterly direction.

Sorry I can't help more.

Jonathan

Bercy has been the Paris station for all the "Artesia" night trains to
Italy for a good couple of years now, until then Gare de Lyon was used.
Also some local services as well as the Gare de Lyon was running out of
platform capacity due to an increase in the number of TGVs whilst other
night trains got diverted to Austerlitz. Bercy is also used for loading &
unloading car-carrying trains.

The Paris-Bercy station is southeast of the Gare de Lyon, a few hundred
metres away, and just east of the Palais Omnisports de Bercy, a
modern-looking multipurpose sports venue. The nearest Métro station is
Bercy, on lines 6 and 14 (the latter also serves the Gare de Lyon
station, which is the next stop in the Madeline direction).

I don't recall the layout of the station offhand, but many stations have
a "point rencontre" so designated somewhere, for meeting groups. Ask
around upon arrival, or look for signs (an orange dot surrounded by
arrows usually indicates a point rencontre).

A good source of information, in French though, is
http://www.capcite.com/shtml/article...cle-3573.shtml.
This is also a generally useful guide to Paris.

The Bercy station can be described as the Gare de Lyon backdoor. As one
proceeds along the Rue Bercy southeasterly from Gare de Lyon there are
signs pointing the way. It seems an odd meeting place for a tour group
as my understanding of Bercy is that it's main purpose for tourism is
that it is the loading place for car trains to the southeast.

It was early in the morning when my train arrived from Venezia and I
was intent on getting to my next destination, but I recall that the
entire gare and the lobby area were both relatively small. I would
guess that the lobby may have been only about 30m wide. I don't think
you will have any trouble finding your group. The gare is kind of
obvious as you exit from the Bercy metro.

The Ministry of Finance building is obvious as is the place where they
hold concerts, but the Bercy Metro stop (lines 14 & 6) is not a place
from which the Gare Bercy is obvious.

Thanks to all who responded. Especially to Siebrand Tilma for the map.

I made a mistake in my orignial question. I am meeting my group
(actually family members) who will be arriving from Zurich at the Gare
de Lyon. We will be traveling to Rome from Paris-Bercy a few days
later.

So I need a landmark at the Gare de Lyon to meet my group. Any help
will be appreciated. Thanks again.

If you know the train on which they will arrive, you could stand at the end
of the voie (track) and wait, otherwise Gare de Lyon is so large that I
would advise meeting in front of the Mercure hotel at the entrance. (Or in
teh lobby in the event of inclement weather.

As I said, it was early in the morning. As I exited down the steps,
most of the other fellow passengers crossed the street and went down
into a Metro stop. Since my ancient map did not show this one, I
walked to the Gare de Lyon to catch the Metro(it is a nice walk only
if you do not have any baggage). I could easily be wrong about which
Metro stop was right in front of the Gare, but there definitely was
one less than 100m away.

The lesson I learned was that if I want to go somewhere on the Metro,
I will usually just enter at the closest stop and then change trains
as many times as necessary.
